and the name of the baby is…

…it’s not like we’re just going to tell you. But I have built for the followers of our blog a little puzzle, which I’m confident that you will enjoy solving—if you’re the sort that enjoys solving puzzles, that is.

The image below is pretty much incomprehensibly small, so I would recommend that you click on it, download the PDF file, print it out, and find a nice sharp pencil. One with an eraser, hopefully. 😉

I do also recommend that you read the directions carefully. Beyond that, I would add only the following:

  1. Please don’t use the comments on this post (or Facebook or whatever else) to spoil the answer for those who are still working on the puzzle. We will eventually release the name to those who are not intrepid enough to play our little game.
  2. You are welcome to use any external resources, including the internet. I expect most will need to. But it is possible even without the internet, should you dare to try.

Game on!

  1. Thanks, Owen, and “good job”! 🙂

Well Owen pointed out I used an alternate spelling on the answer to J, and so I’ve updated the PDF to reflect that as an extra bonus hint.

  2. UNCLE! I just have something wrong and cant figure how to correct it. Have some feelings about where it might be headed but can’t get there. Sorry.

  3. Thanks for some “at work entertainment” It took me 2 afternoons and I got to the end (with many wrong turns) but I am stuck at the very very end. I’ll keep trying but I think i will just have to wait for the answer to be revealed. Thanks for the puzzle. It was fun!

  4. Hi! I found you through Cake Wrecks. I am so happy for you both that you have the opportunity to torment us all with this puzzle!!

Like the previous comment, I am also stuck at the very, very end! I know the quote is correct, so I’m 99% sure my answers for a-z are correct, but I just can’t figure out the names! It’s making me near foolish!!!!!

  5. Hi there! I saw your baby shower cake on Cake Wrecks a few months ago, and started to read about Baby James. I purposely read it from beginning to end, and was so devastated for your loss. I am so happy for you both and this new baby! GREAT name, it took me a whole day to solve the puzzle!

I wish all three of you the BEST of luck! You are the epitomy of strength and faith, hope and love! I feel like I got to know Baby James, and am happy that he is in a better place, and that he was able to touch so many lives on Earth! =)

    Take care,

    Rachael

    1. I haven’t really decided when I’m going to post the puzzle solution. I know of a handful of folks still working on it, and I’m sure they’ll get it if the persevere. Maybe in a week or two.

  6. It kills me to know that it took you less time to make it then it took me to solve it. I was also stuck at the every end AND realized that I was making a really silly mistake. It took a little guidance AND I realized that I had the right answers but I was just looking at it the wrong way. The name is fabulous and worth working for!

  7. I find myself wanting to keep making tricky double crostics. I wonder if there’s a market for that. I mean, I’d make them for other people who have surprise announcements to make or whatever. It would be so fun.

  8. Hello! I discovered you through Cake Wrecks and have sent all day reading about the beautiful and all too short lives of James and Dora. They are blessed to have such wonderful parents who love them, and your new little boy must already feel your love – and God’s – so profoundly! I will be praying every day for your family – know that there is a whole lot of love coming to you from California!

  9. OK, I’ve finally finished the puzzle, but I’m stuck on the name! darnnit!
Hopefully I’ll figure it out soon…or maybe you’ll post the name for all of us who are stuck!

  10. Argh. I don’t have a printer. And I’m not even going to try to solve this without one! Not that it wouldn’t take me a month anyway, most likely…

But I wanted to let you know that I was poking around on Cake Wrecks today and found the link to James’ story. I’ve read the whole way through today, and wanted to send you love, luck and puppy kisses (if you want them 🙂 from North Carolina.

  11. Like so many others, I found you on Cake Wrecks. You’re amazing people. Also, like so many others, I’ve finally finished the puzzle, but can’t figure out the name!
